Safe sex between men

Safe sex between men Men who have sex with men is often known as MSM. Some MSM, gay and bisexual men can be at higher risk of picking up STI’s.

Generally, not only are MSM, gay and bisexual men possibly at higher risk of STIs, but they also face issues such as discrimination, judgement and stigma.

That’s why at ECHO we really try hard to ensure that all MSM, gay and bisexual people are welcome, as it is an important part of your sexual health to have regular check-ups.

Research suggests that around one in 11 gay men in London is HIV positive. In addition to this, a large number of people are unaware they are HIV positive (carrying the virus).

MSM, gay and bisexual men are also at higher risk of other STIs such as:

You won’t be able to tell if someone is HIV positive simply by looking at them, however we also know that it is very difficult for people to disclose their status to possible partners.

This means that it is really important to practice safe sex and attend our clinics for regular check-ups, even if you feel fit and well.

Pre exposure prophylaxis (Prep) for HIV is the use of medications, either daily, or as and when needed, to prevent HIV. To discuss this with a nurse or a doctor, please contact the clinic.
